Washing Machine

When choosing a washing machine, there are four main aspects to consider:

1. Capacity
On average, a person generates about 1kg of dirty laundry daily. To estimate the required capacity, consider 1kg per person plus an extra 1kg for items like towels. A single person should look for a machine with a capacity of 4-5kg, while a family of three may need 6-7kg.

2. Spin speed
A faster spin speed can extract more moisture in a shorter time, making clothes drier and shortening drying time.

3. Space
Before installation, assess the available space and ensure the washing machine can be easily transported  Also, verify that the water supply and drainage configurations are compatible. Top-loading machines are narrower and save space, while front-loading machines are larger but can effectively utilize the top space.

4. Energy label
Always check the energy label to save energy! A Grade 1 washing machine is 48% more efficient than a Grade 5 machine, leading to significant savings on your electricity bill!

Choose Grade 1 Products to Save Energy and Money!

* Comparison is based on model information listed on the EMSD's Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme website in May 2025. The comparison models are horizontal axis washing machines with a rated washing capacity of 7 kg. The models are Rasonic RW-S127 (Grade 1) and Samsung WF0702WKE (Grade 5).
